Overview:

S.G.D.Modern School,situated beside the G.T. Road , is just a five minutes walk from Kumardhubi Railway Station. Though the area is semi urban yet all facilities of conveyance and coaching for the children are available in the locality. As it is situated beside the G.T. Road and very near to the Kumardhubi Railway Station , one can easily access by Bus , Auto or Train. This School,right from its foundation in 1993 as S.G.D. Modern School,is developing in such a manner that its way of functioning and the education system is unique School more productive and progressive than other schools. It is the first school in this entire area to introduce Computer Education as a compulsory subject in the school. More importantly it was the only CBSE affiliated 10+2 School outside the city of Dhanbad in our district and is a member of SAHODAYA SCHOOL COMPLEX , which is a composite body of all CBSE affiliated schools in Dhanbad.

The system of education is based on the National syllabus as per the guidelines of NCERT. The six Laboratories i.e. - Physics , Chemistry , Biology , Mathematics and two Computer Labs provide ample opportunity to every student for practical application and experiments. The Board Practical Exams of the practical based subjects are comfortably conducted in Laboratory section of the School , Classes IX , X , XI and XII follow the structure and syllabus as accorded by the CBSE every year and all examinations are conducted in the School in accordance with the Bye Laws of Examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education Compulsory Computer Education is introduced in Class III. Children of S.G.D. Modern School study Hindi or Bengali as third language from class VI which is very beneficial as Chirkunda is situated in the Junction of Bengal and Jharkhand.

The School Library is managed by trained Librarian in a very systematic manner.The Library has rich collection of story books , Novels , latest study books and sample papers. There are even comics for the tiny – tots. Books are very systematically arranged in different blocks alphabetically and class wise , which makes it easier for any reader to locate the book. There is reading room facility for the students. The senior most classes utilise it the most in their leisure time for taking notes and reading books. The entertainment division contains latest audio – visual electronic gadgets like colour TV , DVD Player which entertains not only the students but also the teachers , who in their leisure time , watch news for the G.K. Classes or enjoy Football / Cricket matches. To break the monotony of the scheduled life in school , children too are given the opportunity to watch Universal movies , Cartoons or Kid’s shows.
