Overview:

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Hazaribag was inaugurated on 04.09.1996 by Mr. Ravi Mittal, IAS the Chairman, Vidalaya Manangement Committee with a strength of 40 pupils in class VI, a significant feature of education under the new education policy came into focus, serving equally well for different classes of students with social, economic and cultural disparities. Initially the school functioned in a private building situated at Pauta Later on it was shifted to its permanent site at Bonga on Aug 23, 2003. Except the Academic block, all the other buildings such as Administrative block, Boy’s & Girl’s dormitories, Principal’s Residence, Warden’s Quarters and Staff quarters were handed over to the school by the construction Agency in a phased manner.

The Navodaya Vidyalaya System is a unique experiment unparalleled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them with quality education comparable to the best in a residential school system. Such children are found in all sections of society, and in all areas including the most backward. But, so far, good quality education has been available only to well-to-do sections of society, and the poor have been left out.
